Dermatology Specialists of Charlotte believes in maximizing sun protection to minimize all the proven negative effects of the sun including: painful, sunburned skin, skin cancer, wrinkles, freckles, age spots, dilated blood vessels, and changes in the texture of the skin that make skin look older. A Physical Sunblock offers the best protection from the sun as it reflects sun off your skin. Your sunblock should primarily be composed of Zinc oxide (now transparent) and/ or Titanium Dioxide as found in Elta MD, and ZO Medical brands. Apply 15 – 30 minutes before going outdoors and reapply every 2 hours while exposed to the sun, especially when playing, gardening, swimming or doing any other outdoor activities. Sunblocks should not be used to increase the time spent in sunlight. Elta MD provides broad spectrum coverage with zinc oxide in combination with other UVB chemical sunscreens to optimally minimize sun damage. We recommend the following:
