BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is best for forehead, glabella and around the eye wrinkles. This works by relaxing the muscles that cause the wrinkles.   Results will not be apparent for 1-2 weeks after injection and last 2-4 months.   Some patients with very deep, persistent wrinkles should consider Restylane® or Juvederm  in these areas as well.

Fillers such as Juvederm™ Ultra and Restylane®

Juvederm™ Ultra and Restylane® are filler agents for deep folds and scars.   It is also used to sculpt lips and restore volume to the face.   The most common areas for treatment are the nasolabial folds and lips. The appropriate filler is injected into the target area.   Your body brings water into the hyaluronic acid of the filler with improvement for 4-12 months.   The results are apparent within 1 week.   You will likely experience redness, and some swelling after injection that will resolve in 48 hours.

Sculptra™

Sculptra™ is a new injectable product used to counteract the loss of fat beneath the skin, a condition called lipoatrophy. Sculptra is injected into the deep dermis layer of the skin to fill in sunken cheeks, hollow eyes, indentations and wrinkles. Sculptra's main component is a poly-L-lactic acid, which helps to stimulate your body to produce more collagen within the line or wrinkle.   The skin looks smoother and firm. The results are not immediate. Multiple injection sessions are required.   Sculptra™ can last up to 2 years once the injection series is complete.   Sculptra™ is not FDA approved for wrinkles.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion works by causing a superficial exfoliation of the epidermis, removing superficial pigment, blackheads, whiteheads and tiny cysts.   It will not improve wrinkles or deep acne scars.   It will give you an improved texture and tone of the skin.   Multiple treatment sessions are necessary over time to achieve and maintain the effect.   There is minimal discomfort and no down time. We are pleased to offer the Dermasweep microdermabrasion system

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels vary in their strength and effectiveness.   Superficial peels exfoliate the epidermis and lead to similar results to microdermabrasion.   Deeper chemical peels involve the application of TCA   (trichloroacetic acid) +/- Jessner's solution.   This peels the skin into the dermis.   This improves deeper wrinkles, deeper pigment abnormalities and overall texture and tone.   A deeper peel requires sedation, some discomfort and 6 weeks of healing.   There can be no sun exposure to the skin at all for the first 2 weeks.   Your skin must be primed with a hydroquinone and retinoid product for 6 weeks before this peel can be performed.   Our office performs light and medium depth chemical peels.  We offer Vitalize, Illuminize and TCA chemical peels.

Cosmetic Mole Removal

Any new or changing mole should be evaluated by your dermatologist immediately. Any moles that appear to be abnormal should be removed and sent to the laboratory for examination by a dermatopathologist. We recommend a full body skin exam yearly to check for abnormal moles and skin cancer.

If the doctor determines that a mole is benign (non-cancerous), the mole may be removed for cosmetic reasons, if you desire.  Insurance will not cover the removal of moles for cosmetic reasons.

The price of mole removal depends on how large the mole is, where the mole is located, and the method used to remove it.

Sclerotherapy for Spider Veins

Spider veins, or telangiectasias, are small, thin, blood vessels visible beneath the skin. They appear most commonly on the face and legs and may look like a series of lines, tree branches, or a spider- or web-like shape with a dark center.

Spider veins are caused by a variety of factors, including heredity, pregnancy (and other conditions that involve changes in hormone levels), weight gain, long periods of standing, and certain medications. They often appear red or blue.

We perform sclerotherapy for fine, purple lines on the lower extremities.

A tiny needle is threaded into the blood vessel and a small amount of a sclerosing agent is gently injected.   This may sting for 20-30 seconds or cause a slight cramp.   The injection "flushes" out the red blood cells temporarily, leading to an inflammatory reaction.   This reaction causes "sclerosis", or the formation of fibrous tissue within the vessel, leading to the gradual disappearance of the vessel.   This fading can take from a few weeks to a few months.   Most areas will require between three to five treatments to fade.

Some of the possible risks include temporary bruising and dark streaks.   Sometimes ulcerations or tiny clots form that resolve with time.

Laser

The Candela Vbeam® Perfecta laser is ideal for removal of the red lines in rosacea, uneven coloring of the neck, red birthmarks, red moles, red veins, purple moles, sun spots on the hands and face.  It also provides skin rejuvenation, minimizes wrinkles around the eyes, scars and stretch marks.  It can treat stubborn warts and psoriasis.

The Candela Ellipse I2PL is an intense pulsed light system that effectively removes the brown and red discoloration of the skin from sun damage.  It helps to remove age or liver spots, freckles, redness of the skin, broken capillaries, enlarged pores, dull complexion and fine wrinkling and scarring.
